Larry David really knows how to curb his enthusiasm for fashion.
It was pretty, pretty, pretty loud — and the 74-year-old showed no enthusiasm for the soundtrack being blasted at STAUD’s Spring 2022 New York Fashion Week show this past weekend.
Making a move that TV Larry could have used to set off mayhem on the hit HBO show “Curb Your Enthusiasm” — which starts its new season in October — David sat in the front row, laid low in his seat and plugged his ears with his fingers.
Luckily his legs were straight and he did not trip any of the models, as David’s character did after he stretched out while courtside for a Lakers game in a 2001 episode of “Curb” and his feet got tangled up with those of Shaquille O’Neill.
Emilia Petrarca, a fashion writer with New York magazine’s The Cut, captured the faux pas and posted it to Instagram. “Larry David should come to Fashion Week more often,” she wrote on her Insta page. “I think he’d enjoy it.”
Jeff Garlin, who plays Larry’s beleaguered manager on the TV show, did Petrarca one better when he reacted to the video by posting, “I don’t know who he is anymore.”
But that was just one stop on David’s Noise Annoys tour of the Big Apple. Also this weekend, at the final of the US Open Women’s Singles match — which was aced by Emma Raducanu — he was spotted in the stands plugging his ears.
Barstool Sports posted that one to Twitter and described it as “perfect Larry David.”
One place in which David did not cover his ears was the 60th birthday bash for Barack Obama. Initially invited, David failed to make the cut when the former president had to prune his invite list. Told that he was “86ed from the party, I was so relieved, I screamed ‘Thank you! Thank you!’” the volume-averse David told the New York Times. “[The person calling] must have thought I was insane.”
What did David do after receiving the news? “I hung up, poured myself a drink and finished my crossword puzzle.”
